Car and Driver tested six top compact sport-utilities for its March 1994 issue, on highways and the drag strip, in mud bogs and deep snow, and on rock-strewn trails. A V-8 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited emerged on the top. Reflecting the "gentrified" nature of these 4x4 wagons, sticker prices averaged $36,320. Finishing in order behind the Jeep (31,332 as tested) were the Toyota Land Cruiser, Range Rover Country, Mitsubishi Montero Sr, Isuzu Trooper LS, and Ford Explorer Limited.

Continued strong sales were evidence of the success of the 1995-1996 Chrysler-Jeep linkup. Jeep Wrangler was more popular than ever. And the Jeep Cherokee had found a second life as a "classic" sport-utility wagon.
But it was the Grand Cherokee -- the vehicle most affected by the Chrysler-Jeep marriage -- that now accounted for fully half of all Jeeps sold. Its blend of safety and power, refinement and ruggedness, continued to earn accolades from the public and press.

1992-1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee (Sport and Ribbed Roof Install0
TECH SERVICE BULLETIN: 1984-01 Jeep Cherokee (Sport) & 1992-98 Grand Cherokee Ribbed Roof Install~Many sunroof techs are concerned about installing sunroofs in Jeep Cherokees because they have ribbed roofs. Cherokee ribs are only 3/16″ high x 1-1/2″ wide. While most sunroofs are designed to clamp to flat sheet metal, this
bulletin explains various techniques for making sunroof installation possible and relatively easy.
Similar height ribs may interfere with a sunroof install in the Jeep Liberty, Chevy Astro, GMC Safari, and in the rear
sections of many full sized SUV’s.
I. Metal Frame Sunroofs
In order to accommodate the added thickness of the ribs, longer clamp frame screws or peeling one score off aclamp frame may be required.Install as normal, with any of the following options:
A. Use CS-105 (3/8″ x 7/16″ D-shaped foam seal) as main frame sealant
1. Measure and cut sunroof hole as usual
2. Apply self-adhesive CS-105 to sunroof frame (approx. 9 ft. per sunroof).
3. Join CS-105 ends at a 45° angle (not a butt joint). Apply sealant to the joint.
4. Clamp sunroof into hole as usual. No cleanup is required
B. Use non-corrosive silicone sealant to fill between the ribs.
1. Measure and cut sunroof hole as usual
2. Apply a bead of silicone in between the ribs to fill the gap
3. Apply a bead of silicone to sunroof frame (in place of butyl or foam tape)
4. Clamp sunroof into hole as usual. Longer screws may be required on some sunroofs.
5. Cleanup is required. Neatly smooth and feather the silicone around the sunroof frame.
NOTE: shims can be helpful, but are not required – metal frames will not twist out of shape

Jeep Grand Cherokee INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS Polyurethane Lift
1999-04 2″ Grand Cherokee INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS Polyurethane Lift~A Few Words About Safety:
Your safety and the safety of other motorists is very important. As the owner of a modified suspension vehicle you are the
person choosing the combination of suspension, wheels, tires and drive train that best fit your intended use. Likewise, you are
the person responsible for the safety and legality of the vehicle you modify. In modifying your vehicle’s suspension, balance
your off-road capabilities against how the vehicle may actually be used off-road and on-road.
It is not practical or possible to warn about all hazards associated with modifying your suspension for improved off road
capabilities. To help you make informed decisions about safety, we have provided certain information in the form of “Notices”
and “Warnings”. This information alerts you to potential hazards that could hurt you or others.
Notice: This is a caution against anything which may cause damage to the vehicle or its equipment if the caution is ignored.
The Notice includes information about how you can avoid or reduce those risks.
Warning: This is a signal telling you that you CAN be KILLED or SERIOUSLY HURT if you don’t follow the Warning. The
Warning includes information about what you must or must not do in order to reduce the risk of injury to yourself and others……
FRONT:
1. Secure and properly block the tires of vehicle on a level
concrete or asphalt surface.
2. Jack up front of vehicle and install jack stands under frame
behind the lower link rear brackets. Remove tires and front
shocks.
3. Loosen, but do not remove the sway bar end link’s lower
bolts at axle housing on both sides (see picture #1). Lower
front axle down until coil springs become loose. Remove the
bottom bolt and clip from left front coil spring (see picture #2).
4. Now remove both coil springs.
5. Install 2″ coil spring isolator pads on top (front spring) of the
factory pads. Place the 2″ spacer in the lower mount for the
rear spring. (See picture #4) Raise jack up so that enough
load is applied to hold coil springs in place. Reinstall spring
bolt and clip at bottom of left front coil. Install new shocks.
6. Completely lower vehicle to the ground. Now tighten the
sway bar endlink’s lower bolts loosened from step #3.
NOTE: Repeat steps 1 – 6 from above to complete rear installation.

Last Generations Jeep Cherokee Features
Much in the same way that American automakers had downsized many of their cars in the previous decade, Jeep downsized one of its nameplates, theCherokee, for 1984.
Prior to this year, the Cherokee moniker was attached to what amounted to a sportier version of Jeep’s Wagoneer. Mostly unchanged since its debut in the
early 1960s, the Wagoneer was a large, truck-based, four-door wagon with four-wheel drive.
The former Cherokee, introduced as a 1974, shared most everything with the Wagoneer, including dimensions and engine selections. The major differences
between the two were that the Cherokee was initially available only as a two-door (with the same wheelbase and length as the Wagoneer) and the Cherokee
cost less than the more luxurious Wagoneer. A four-door Cherokee joined the lineup in 1977.
The 1984 Cherokee shared nothing with its predecessor, save its name. A shorter wheel- base (over 7 inches less than the “old” model, at 101.4 inches) and
overall length (at 165.3 inches, a decrease of 21 inches) combined with a much lighter weight of around 3,100 pounds (over 1,000 pounds less than before)
went a long way toward better fuel mileage and easier maneuverability, on-road or off. Two-door and four-door body styles were offered.
Styling for the trim Cherokee was chiseled and taut, with muscular wheel well flares and a tall greenhouse that afforded good visibility for driver and passengers
alike. The interior continued this theme with a likewise simple dash and control layout. Seating capacity was listed as five, though it was tight for three adults to
ride in the backseat.
Trim levels were comprised of the base Cherokee, more luxurious Pioneer and the sporty Chief. The Pioneer featured carpeting, additional instrument panel
gauges, full center console and a rear window wiper/washer. The Chief was the most stylin’ of the trio with blackout exterior trim, hood striping and whitelettered
tires.
Motive force came in the form of either four- or six-cylinder power. The 2.5-liter four banger inhaled its fuel and air through a one-barrel carburetor and made
105 horsepower. The optional, 2.8-liter, two-barrel V6 (which was actually supplied by Chevrolet) produced but 115 horses. Although these powerplants were
adequate, serious thrust for the Cherokee was a still a few years away. There were three transmission choices for the V6: a standard four-speed manual,
optional five-speed manual and optional three-speed automatic. The four-cylinder was limited to the four-speed manual as its gearbox.
Considered by many as the leader in the four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle segment, Jeep offered not one but two 4WD systems for the Cherokee. “Command-
Trac” was a part-time, shift-on-the-fly unit and the “Selec-Trac” system allowed the option of full-time 4WD operation. A “Quadra-Link” front suspension design
(which featured a solid axle suspended by coil springs and four links) contributed to the Cherokee’s quickly acquired reputation for off-road prowess.
The new Cherokee was well received by the motoring press and the buying public alike, with nearly 78,000 Cherokees sold in its first year.
1985 brought the Laredo trim level to the Cherokee family. Standard on the Laredo were most of the features of the Pioneer with upgrades such as plusher
interior materials, pinstripes, alloy wheels and chrome grille treatment.

2007 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED X The small, military-style Jeep once known as the TJ now goes by the name of Wrangler. And, for the first time, a four-door model is available. Called the Unlimited, it is 52.1 cm longer overall, with 52.2 cm more in the wheelbase. The Wrangler is offered in X, Sahara and Rubicon trims. Though all versions are off-road oriented, the Rubicon is the best of the trio thanks to such characteristics as locking front and rear differentials and a more rugged rear differential. Interior and cargo …
Engine and transmission The 3.8-litre V6 engine develops 202 horsepower and 237 pounds of torque. Acceleration and pickup are a bit slow because of the gearing of the transmission and the rear differential that favour torque for off-road efficiency over power for quick acceleration. On the other hand, generous torque promotes smooth driving by eliminating unnecessary downshifting. The engine is noisy in average acceleration and above. The six-speed manual transmission is easy to shift. Because of the close gearing, sixth gear is appreciated as it lowers engine revolution at highway speeds. The transfer case, too, is easy to use. On the road Despite its two solid axles, the Wrangler provides a smooth ride with a touch of well-controlled firmness. Obviously, there is some bouncing on certain types of bumps, but without harsh reactions. The level of comfort is a pleasant surprise from a vehicle capable of affronting the severest of off-road conditions. Road holding is correct for this type of vehicle.
